Warners Bay Vet has a full range of medications to treat your pet. Some of these medications are ‘Prescription Only’ whilst others are available ‘Over the Counter’.
‘Prescription Only’ medications are controlled by Law and can only be prescribed by a Veterinarian after examining your pet.
Unfortunately veterinary medications are not subsidised in the way human medications are. This means some medications can be quite expensive. Where possible we stock generic medications to try to keep these costs more affordable.
At Warners Bay Vet we understand even routine surgery can be a stressful time for both owners and their pets. In an endeavour to minimise these feelings we have developed practices and procedures to give a clear understanding and keep owners informed and pets comfortable during this process.
Our Veterinarians’ high level of expertise and the practices’ fully equipped surgical suite allow us to perform the vast majority of surgical procedures that your pet may require. These procedures include routine de-sexing, biopsies, tumour removal, skin laceration repairs, foreign body removal and abdominal surgery- the list is endless. The clinic is also well equipped to offer more complicated procedures including cruciate surgery, bone fracture repair, patella luxation and brachycephalic airway correction to name a few.
All animals having a gaseous anaesthetic at Warners Bay Vet will be placed on intravenous fluids during their procedure. This enables a safer anaesthetic by supporting blood pressure, preventing dehydration and facilitates early administration of pain relief medications. We also employ state of the art Cardell patient monitoring equipment to continuously monitor vital signs during your pets’ procedure.
In order to provide the best outcome for your pet, it is sometimes recommended that some of the more advanced procedures are performed by specialist surgeons. Specialist referral options can be discussed with the staff at Warners Bay Vet.
Radiographs (X-rays) are still an important diagnostic tool in Veterinary Medicine. Warners Bay Vet is fully equipped with a powerful state of the art Xray machine to take radiographs of your pet. This machine is able to provide accurate radiographic detail of internal organs and bones. This will allow rapid diagnosis and aid in the treatment of many conditions.
Ultrasound can provide accurate and detailed information on abdominal and soft tissue other organs. At Warners Bay Vet we are fortunate to have a modern Toshiba ultrasound machine to aide in the diagnosis of many conditions. Some of the uses of this equipment include pregnancy diagnosis, precision guidance for percutaneous sampling of abdominal masses and effusions, or the examination of tendons, tumours and periocular swellings.
Referral for more complicated examinations and cardiac ultrasounds can also be arranged.
Just like humans, dental disease is a common problem in our pets. When there is a build up of bacteria, food particles and saliva on teeth plaque is formed. Plaque adheres to the surface of the tooth above and below the gum line and if not removed will calcify into tartar. Over time bacterial infection in the tartar causes irreversible changes to occur. If left untreated your pet may develop significant gum disease, tooth decay, oral pain, and systemic bacterial infections. Clinical signs of dental disease may include bad breath, excessive drooling, a reluctance to eat regular meals and/or facial swelling.
At Warners Bay Vet our aim is for your pet to retain all their teeth in a healthy condition. To achieve this regular dental checks are encouraged especially if your pet has any of the above clinical signs. If dental disease is found a professional dental clean may be recommended. This involves a general anaesthetic, assessment of the oral cavity, removal of any damaged, decaying or infected teeth and a thorough cleaning of those that remain. Staff will then discuss home care options to help maintain your pets’ teeth in good condition.
At Warners Bay Vet we have top of the line dental and monitoring equipment to allow us to provide the best dental care for your pet. If you are concerned about your pets oral hygiene please call for a dental check.
ONSITE & REFERRAL PATHOLOGY:
Clinical pathology involves the laboratory evaluation of blood, fluids or body tissues in order to identify existing disease. Common laboratory tests include blood chemistries, complete blood counts, blood clotting times, urinalysis, faecal tests, biopsy examination, cultures and infectious disease testing.
Warners Bay Vet is equipped with IDEXX in-house blood testing equipment, a Carl Zeiss microscope and staining equipment and faecal float analysis procedure that allows our veterinarians to quickly perform many of these diagnostic tests to achieve an accurate and rapid diagnosis. This is especially important in very ill animals and those requiring immediate or emergency treatment.
Some more specialised tests may need to be performed by an external veterinary laboratory. External laboratory results can take several days to weeks to perform, depending on the nature of the test requested.
SEPARATE DOG & CAT WARDS:
One of our aims at Warners Bay Vet is to make your pets visit to our hospital as enjoyable as possible. Cats and dogs pick up on each other’s scent and this can cause distress to cats and arousal to dogs if different species frequent the area. At Warners Bay Vet we understand the importance of this and have built separate dog and cat wards where your pet can stay whilst being treated at our hospital.
PUPPY PRE SCHOOL:
Recent studies have shown the importance of early socialisation and training of your puppy to help avoid potential behavioural problems later in life. For this reason, in association with ‘The Good Dog’, Warners Bay Vet offers a comprehensive puppy school right here in the clinic. The aim of these classes are to provide owners with the knowledge and skills to raise happy, confident and well balanced pets.
Each puppy must start between 8 and 18 weeks of age and have had their first puppy vaccination. Puppy classes are held on Wednesday nights starting at 6:30pm and run for four weeks.
If you are interested in these classes please call our friendly staff for more information.
At Warners Bay Vet we have a boutique cat boarding facility. Before their stay all cats require an up to date F3 vaccination, worming and flea treatment. Whilst on holidays all our feline friends have daily access to the exercise and play area. To ensure hygiene and cleanliness standards are maintained, if fleas are found on your pet the friendly staff will need to administer a flea and worming treatment option. As we can accept only a small number of guests it is important to book early. Please call our reception on 02 4947 1069 to make a reservation.
PREMIUM AND PRESCRIPTION PET FOODS:
Along with regular exercise and veterinary care, careful nutrition is the best way you can contribute to your pet’s prolonged good health. Premium pet foods offer high quality ingredients, are made by companies specialising in nutritional research, and show a solid track record of quality and palatability.
At Warners Bay Vet we carry a range of premium and prescription pet foods. If your pet has specific dietary requirements please discuss this with our friendly staff.
